The York Daily Record has officially endorsed Commissioners Lori Mitrick and Doug Kilgore! Below are some key excerpts from the endorsement letter.

“During his four years on the county board of commissioners, Republican Steve Chronister has done very little except grumble about county spending.
Now, running for re-election, he has unveiled an expensive, ill-conceived crime prevention program that involves hiring dozens of unskilled young people to stand on street corners with walkie-talkies reporting jaywalkers to police. “

Chris Reilly prided himself as a hard-line fiscal conservative, opposing small, incremental tax increases but ultimately voting to increase county taxes by a whopping 33 percent in 2003 and 25 percent in 2001 - not to mention voting to increase his own pension just prior to leaving office. “

“But we have absolutely no doubt that the county would be in better hands if those two remain than if it were to fall under the control of any combination of the ballot candidates. With the possible exception of Mr. Hoke, the candidates on the ballot are simply not of the same caliber and diligence as Mr. Kilgore and Ms. Mitrick. “

Write In Campaign for York County Commissioners

My name is David Krone, I live in Springfield Township, York County, and I represent ‘Citizens for Responsible County Government’, a non-partisan, community organized committee.

After the May primary, many citizens were disappointed with the low voter turn out, and the results of the election. Only 18% of the registered voters cast ballots in the primary. The percentage of votes between the second and third place candidates was only 1% of the vote. There was no mandate by the voters.

The primary election results in May were about one issue. We believe that there are many more issues such as taxes, county services, and farmland preservation that need to be discussed in the public light. With the current ballot, it is possible that all three elected commissioners will have personal real estate interests. Are these the people who York Countians want deciding the future of our rapidly growing County?

Through discussions with our neighbors, and networking in the community, we made the decision to form a non-partisan political action committee to review our options. During our meetings, members expressed a lack of confidence in the candidates on the ballot and their vision of York County’s future.

After careful consideration of the issues facing this community, Citizens for Responsible County Government is endorsing incumbent Commissioners Lori Mitrick and Doug Kilgore for County Commissioner. This non-partisan endorsement puts York County First, politics second.

There is no better expression of a true democracy than the power of the write in vote. The issues of York County’s future go far beyond party politics. We encourage voters to put York County first, politics second, and write in Lori Mitrick and Doug Kilgore for County Commissioner.

Commissioners Mitrick and Kilgore operated in an unprecedented bi-partisan way during their time in office. Together they brought vision, accountability, and responsibility to the Commissioners Office. They improved financial management policies and procedures to reduce costs and keep the budget in check. They redesigned the county tax bill to better communicate to the public how county tax dollars are spent. These two Commissioners brought transparency and accountability to County business.

Commissioners Mitrick and Kilgore opened up all budget meetings to the public, invited all citizens to budget hearings, and welcomed comments on each portion of the budget. Instead of political appointees, they hired experienced professionals to lead key departments including Emergency Management, Human Services, Human Resources and County Solicitor. What a refreshing change from “politics as usual.” Commissioners Mitrick and Kilgore invested in technology and training which improved employee productivity within county government. They expanded inter-governmental cooperation in all corners of the county. And most importantly, they brought focus to the number one issue facing the county - unmanaged growth. York County is the fastest growing county in the northeast and it needs regional planning for sound growth management. Commissioners Mitrick and Kilgore have a plan in place.
